This quote makes me think of what I wore in different stages of life. I wondered if anyone stared.
- Business suits and heels as an Executive Secretary in a bank
- Jeans and sweats as a stay-at-home mom
- White pants and lab coat as a Medical Secretary
- Hoodies and sneakers as an evening college student
- Slacks and blazers as a Reading Teacher
And now that I’ve retired, I crochet baby blankets for my Etsy store and I sit most the day either working on the computer or crocheting new products.
So, what do I wear when I crochet?
Jeans and big shirts were okay at the start but sitting in tight, rough jeans became too uncomfortable. Sweat pants were too sloppy because I needed to run errands and I always felt too messy. Truth be told, I’m not a shopper and really don’t like it at all. But, I ran around to the malls and outlets searching for the perfect “Crocheting” outfit. I couldn’t find anything I liked.
During my computer research on some crochet shop matters, I came across sites where people could design their own shirts.
And the “Crochet” shirt was born
This is a picture of the first shirt I was brave enough to try to design. Pictured here, I’m wearing a long=sleeved tee because I made it in the Fall. It will also be available soon in a tee and, my favorite, a soft snuggly sweatshirt. The design has slightly changed on the new edition.

What do you know, I was wearing this “first” shirt while standing in line at the coffee shop and someone remarked that she loved the shirt and asked where she could get one. The same thing at the Post Office. At the time, it was the only one. Then a good friend – and avid crocheter -was retiring. I wanted to gift a shirt for her too.
So I took the leap and started this online store so I could share these one-of-a-kind shirts with other Crochet Artisans. I own every shirt that I sell and my at-home “uniform” has become skinny leggings or capris with an oversized “crochet” shirt. That online store has now closed and is being replaced with this one.
BTW, if you sell your Crocheted items online or at a Craft Fair, wear your cutest Crochet shirt and be sure to bring your business cards when you’re out and about because, as the Harry Winston quote above states, “make it worth your while.”
